Model Paper 1 — Single 100-mark paper (Sections A, B, C)

Section A — Reading Comprehension (30 marks)

  1. 1Q1–5: A prose passage from a First Flight lesson with 'Wh' questions and short answers (title given at the end).
  2. 2Q6–10: A poem from First Flight for comprehension — 'Wh' questions and MCQs (title given at the end).
  3. 3Q11–15: A comprehension passage from a Footprints without Feet (Supplementary Reader) lesson with MCQs.
  4. 4Reading an unseen passage / tabular data (table, pie chart, bar chart) and answering the questions based on it.
  5. 5Make notes from the given passage using headings, sub-headings, and bullet points; write a short summary.

Section B — Grammar & Vocabulary (40 marks)

  1. 1Change the following sentences to passive voice: (a) She is writing a letter. (b) They completed the work yesterday. (c) He will inform the manager.
  2. 2Change to indirect speech: (a) He said, 'I am feeling tired.' (b) She asked, 'Where are you going?' (c) The teacher said, 'Open your books.'
  3. 3Edit a passage by correcting the underlined parts (errors in tense, article, preposition, etc.).
  4. 4Fill in the blanks with the correct form of the verb / appropriate prepositions / linkers.
  5. 5Add question tags and combine sentences using suitable connectors.
  6. 6Vocabulary: synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutions, phrasal verbs, and idioms from the prose lessons.

Section C — Creative Expression (30 marks)

  1. 1Write an essay on a given topic (e.g. 'The Role of Technology in Education') in about 150–200 words.
  2. 2Formal letter: Write a letter to the District Collector requesting repair of a public road in your locality.
  3. 3Informal letter: Write a letter to your friend describing your exam preparation and giving advice.
  4. 4Write a notice / short report / dialogue / script for a speech on a given situation.
  5. 5Bio-sketch or description based on the given cues (from the Speaking & Writing sections of the reader).
