Months of preparation can be undermined by a poor exam day routine. This checklist eliminates the common failure modes.
Night Before the Exam
- Stop studying by 9-10 PM — no new content, only light formula revision
- Pack your bag: admit card (essential), 2-3 blue/black pens, pencil, ruler, eraser
- Set 2 alarms — 30 minutes apart
- Sleep by 10:30 PM — aim for 7-8 hours
- Keep clothes, ID, and bag ready
Morning of the Exam
- Wake up 2+ hours before the exam
- Eat a real breakfast — your brain runs on glucose
- Light revision only: 30 minutes maximum on key formulas
- Leave early — reach centre 20-30 minutes before time
- Do not discuss paper content with friends at the centre
Inside the Exam Hall
- Read all instructions on the question paper in the first 2 minutes
- Spend 5 minutes reading the full paper and planning attempt order
- Start with questions you are most confident about
- Leave difficult questions — mark and return
- Attempt every question — no negative marking in CBSE boards
Time Management in a 3-Hour Paper
| Phase | Time | Activity |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | 0-5 min | Read instructions, plan attempt order |
| Main attempt | 5-150 min | Solve all questions you know confidently |
| Difficult questions | 150-165 min | Attempt marked difficult questions |
| Review | 165-180 min | Check for unattempted questions, verify answers |
Tip
Never leave the hall early — use every minute. Use remaining time to re-read long answers and add any missing points. CBSE examiners award marks for additional correct points even if not explicitly asked.
