Topic-by-topic revision tracker for AP SSC Class 10 English — Grammar (Section B), Creative Expression (Section C), Reading (Section A), and Vocabulary. Check off each topic before your BSE AP exam.
Grammar — High Weight (Section B)
High- Tenses: Simple Present, Past, Future; Present/Past Perfect; Progressive tenses — form and usage
- Active and Passive Voice: rules for all tenses; objects become subjects; 'by' phrase usage
- Direct and Indirect Speech: reporting verbs (said, told, asked); tense backshift; time/place word changes
- Modals: can/could, will/would, shall/should, may/might, must, need, ought to — meaning and usage
- Conditionals: Type 0 (fact), Type 1 (real future), Type 2 (unreal present), Type 3 (unreal past)
- Articles (a, an, the) and Prepositions: common patterns; at/in/on for time and place
- Relative clauses: who, which, that, whose, whom — restrictive and non-restrictive
- Question tags: positive statement → negative tag; negative statement → positive tag
Reading Comprehension — High Weight (Section A)
High- Reading an unseen passage and answering questions: factual, inferential, vocabulary-in-context
- Identifying the main idea and supporting details in a paragraph
- Understanding tone and purpose of the passage (informational, argumentative, narrative)
- Vocabulary from context: use surrounding sentences to determine meaning of unfamiliar words
- Note-making from a passage: headings, sub-headings, key facts in bullet points
- Summary writing: reduce a passage to 1/3 of its length in your own words
Vocabulary — Medium Weight (Section B)
Medium- Synonyms and antonyms: practise with common word lists (BSE AP tends to use NCERT vocabulary)
- One-word substitutions: common exam examples (bibliophile, omnivore, autobiography, etc.)
- Idioms and phrases: at the drop of a hat, burn the midnight oil, bite the bullet, etc.
- Word forms: noun, verb, adjective, adverb forms of common words
- Homophones: accept/except, affect/effect, principal/principle, stationary/stationery
- Phrasal verbs: look up, come across, put off, bring up, turn down, give in
Creative Expression — High Weight (Section C)
High- Formal letter: format (sender, date, receiver, subject, salutation, body, complimentary close, signature)
- Informal letter: format (date, salutation, body paragraphs, closing); conversational but correct grammar
- Essay writing: introduction with thesis → 2–3 body paragraphs → conclusion; 250–300 words
- Essay types: descriptive, narrative, argumentative, expository — practise one of each
- Report writing: title, to/from/date, introduction, findings (numbered), conclusion and recommendations
- Notice writing: school notice format — institution name, 'NOTICE' heading, date, title, body (brief), signature
- Dialogue writing: two speakers, natural conversational English, use correct punctuation for speech
Literature — First Flight & Footprints without Feet (Section A)
High- First Flight (main reader): know the main characters, theme, and moral of all prose lessons
- First Flight: learn all poems — poet's name, theme, poetic devices (simile, metaphor, alliteration, rhyme scheme)
- Footprints without Feet (Supplementary Reader): read all lessons — comprehension MCQs are set from these
- Reading comprehension is set from prose (First Flight), a poem (First Flight), and a Supplementary Reader lesson
- Character sketch and value-based questions: describe qualities / relate the message to real life with text examples
