Q. State Gauss's Law. Using it, derive the expression for electric field outside a uniformly charged spherical shell.
Asked in past CBSE board exams
Write this answer → Examiner must give full marks
Every solution follows the CBSE official marking scheme.
Gauss's Law
Total electric flux through any closed surface = net charge enclosed ÷ ε₀. φ = Q/ε₀
Setup
Shell of radius R, charge Q. Gaussian sphere of radius r > R, concentric with shell.
Apply
By symmetry E is constant on Gaussian surface. E × 4πr² = Q/ε₀
Answer
E = Q / (4πε₀r²) — radially outward. ✓ Shell behaves as a point charge at its centre.
Q. Evaluate: ∫₀^(π/2) sin²x dx
Asked in past CBSE board exams
Write this answer → Examiner must give full marks
Every solution follows the CBSE official marking scheme.
Step 1
Use identity: sin²x = (1 − cos2x) / 2
Step 2
∫₀^(π/2) sin²x dx = ½ [x − sin2x/2]₀^(π/2)
Step 3
= ½ [(π/2 − 0) − (0 − 0)] = ½ × π/2
Answer
= π/4 ✓
