Mathematics Exam Writing Tips

How to present your Maths answers in the BSE Telangana Class 10 exam to score full marks — proofs, word problems, trigonometry, constructions, and statistics.

Proofs and Theorems

4–5 marks
  1. 1State what is Given and what is To Prove as separate lines at the top
  2. 2Write each step with a reason — do not just write the equation without justification
  3. 3Draw a labelled diagram for every geometry theorem — you lose marks without it
  4. 4Proofs must have a conclusion: end with 'Hence proved' or 'Therefore, [statement]'
  5. 5For BPT and circle theorems: mark all given angle/length equalities on the diagram before starting

Word Problems

3–5 marks
  1. 1Read twice — identify what is given (known values) and what is asked (unknown)
  2. 2Define variables: write 'Let x = ...' clearly before forming equations
  3. 3Form the equation or expression step by step — do not skip from problem to answer
  4. 4Solve and then write a sentence answer: 'Therefore, the speed of the train is ... km/h'
  5. 5For AP / statistics word problems: list the given terms or data before applying the formula

Trigonometry Problems

3–5 marks
  1. 1Draw a right triangle for all trig problems — label the given angle, opposite, adjacent, hypotenuse
  2. 2Write the identity you will use before applying it: 'Using sin²θ + cos²θ = 1...'
  3. 3For height-and-distance problems: draw the figure with the angle of elevation or depression clearly marked
  4. 4Do not skip substitution — write the formula, then substitute, then simplify
  5. 5Use tan θ first when given opposite and adjacent — it avoids the square root step

Constructions

3–4 marks
  1. 1Use a sharp HB pencil — faint lines lose marks; dark lines are preferred
  2. 2Arcs and circles must be drawn with a compass, not freehand
  3. 3Label every point you construct: O (centre), A, B, T (tangent point) etc.
  4. 4Write the steps of construction in numbered order below your diagram
  5. 5Measure and verify: check that tangent length matches the formula √(d² − r²) before moving on

Statistics (Mean / Median / Mode)

4–5 marks
  1. 1Draw a full frequency table: class interval, frequency, midpoint (x), fx, cumulative frequency
  2. 2For mean: show Σf and Σfx clearly; divide to get x̄ — don't skip this summary row
  3. 3For median: identify n/2, find the median class from cumulative frequency, then apply the formula
  4. 4For mode: identify the modal class (highest frequency), then substitute into the mode formula step by step
  5. 5Box your final answer clearly — median = ... or mode = ... — this makes it easy to grade
