Physical Science Exam Writing Tips
How to write your Physical Science answers in the BSE Telangana Class 10 exam for full marks — numericals, chemical equations, diagrams, theory questions, and time management.
Numerical Problems (Physics)
3–5 marks- 1Write 'Given:' and list all values with units — graders check this before looking at your calculation
- 2Write 'To Find:' — state what the question is asking for
- 3Write the formula before substituting — this earns method marks even if arithmetic goes wrong
- 4Substitute the values with units and simplify step by step
- 5Write the final answer with correct unit: ohms, watts, joules, metres, etc.
Chemical Equations
2–4 marks- 1Write the word equation first if the question says 'write the reaction' — then write the chemical equation below
- 2Balance atoms systematically: first balance the metal, then oxygen, then hydrogen
- 3State symbols: (s) solid, (l) liquid, (g) gas, (aq) aqueous — include these for full marks
- 4Upward arrow (↑) for gases produced; downward arrow (↓) for precipitates
- 5For organic reactions: check that all carbon atoms are accounted for on both sides
Diagram Questions
3–4 marks- 1Draw diagrams with a pencil — neat freehand is acceptable for theory diagrams
- 2Label every part: for circuit diagrams label each component; for optics diagrams label F, C, lens/mirror, rays
- 3Draw arrows on rays — incident ray, reflected/refracted ray, and normal must all have arrows
- 4For lens/mirror diagrams: draw at least 2 rays and show where the image forms
- 5Write the diagram title below it: 'Circuit diagram for parallel resistance' etc.
Theory / Explanation Questions
3–5 marks- 1Definition first: always open with the definition of the concept being asked about
- 2Explain using cause-and-effect: 'When X happens, Y occurs because Z'
- 3Include one example for every theory answer — e.g., for displacement, use Fe + CuSO₄
- 4End with applications: 'This principle is used in...' — examiners reward applied understanding
- 5For compare/contrast questions: use a table with two columns — it saves time and is clear to mark
Time and Exam Strategy
General tips- 1Paper structure: Section A (1-mark) → Section B (2-mark) → Section C (4-mark) → Section D (5-mark) — do in this order
- 2Do not leave any 1-mark or 2-mark questions blank — partial answers still earn marks
- 3Budget time: 1 mark = 1.5 minutes, 2 marks = 3 minutes, 4 marks = 7 minutes, 5 marks = 9 minutes
- 4Check chemical equations are balanced before moving on — unbalanced equations are penalised
- 5If stuck on a 5-mark question: write what you know, draw a diagram, and state the formula — partial credit adds up
